Naval Station Pearl Harbor Energy

The Navy has commenced Phase II Selection EUL for the development of a 90-100 MW, bio-fueled power plant at Naval Station Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The proposed plant would be located on Navy land and would provide electrical power to the Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) under terms and conditions to be negotiated with HECO.

The proposed plant would be located at Power Plan #3 compound (Bldg. 177 compound), adjacent to Drydock #4 at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. In addition, land will be made available for a substation interconnection equipment yard and fuel storage tanks.

One of the potential benefits of this project for the Navy is to provide energy security to NAVSTA Pearl Harbor, Ford Island, Makalapa Crater, and Hickam Air Force Base during brownouts/blackouts, as well as other benefits, including environmental clean-up of contaminated facilities.
